The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Damien English, T.D., launched (10th April,2019) a manual to help property owners, the public, local authorities and the construction industry to developing vacant buildings. Bringing Back Homes – Manual for the reuse of existing buildings aims to help increase housing supply as well as rejuvenate town centres and city streets.
Minister Damien English TD launches two new reports on Vacant Properties authored by Dr Philip Crowe. This research was commissioned by the Collaborative Working Group for Housing and Sustainable Living, which includes representatives from The Heritage Council of Ireland, the Housing Agency, Mayo County Council and Space Engagers.
Good work from Councils; Mayo, Dublin City and Westmeath, also The Peter McVerry Trust and Tuath Housing in bringing vacant homes back into use.

Benefits for families with a housing need. The creation of these new homes will protect services and help stimulate the local economy.
35 premises are in the process of being brought back into use by the owner following discussions with the Local Authority. 68 are being pursued under the Buy and Renew and Repair and Lease Schemes.
Tom Gilligan, Director of Services with Mayo County Council and architect of the website Vacanthomes.ie said the initiative has helped highlight the importance of bringing empty properties back into use.
